Seven Foot Live Edge Walnut Dining Table With Nakashima Style Base

$4,400

This walnut dining table features two live edge bookmatched slabs with a fine gap in the middle highlighting the individual slabs and showing the sapwood coloration which is usually discarded. The gaps is spanned by six rosewood dovetail keys which, with their dark color and very straight grain, contrast strikingly with the sapwood and figured grain of the slabs. The seven foot table top has the characteristic base which finished off the effect of a solid, natural product used in a new and modern piece of furniture.

I am one man woodworking studio and I craft stunning furniture using Live Edge Slabs combined with time honored traditions of woodworking.

My Story:

In 2010, my woodworking journey kicked off as I sought a hands-on career post-college and the birth of my twins. Woodworking was just a fleeting interest back then, but the prospect of adding a custom woodworking dimension to my in-laws’ lumber business prompted a move to my wife’s hometown and taking on a role at Seneca Hardwood Lumber Co. This sparked a passion for making things from wood.

Immersed in the lumber industry at Seneca, I experimented with crafting rustic pieces from freshly milled "live edge" slabs. Progressing from these early experiments at the Seneca Mill, I honed my skills and began making pieces for the Hardwood Mall Showroom. A brief apprenticeship with a skilled Romanian woodworker further refined my approach.

Inspired by George Nakashima, I delved into designing refined live-edge tables, gradually gaining local recognition. A milestone project—kitchen cabinets made from reclaimed lumber and a live edge staircase—underscored my capabilities. The turning point came with a Gothic-style private chapel completed in 2012, a project that exponentially elevated my skills and gave me the confidence to consider woodworking as a potential full-time livelihood.

Striving to realize this dream, I ventured into online selling, facing the challenges of remote client communication and shipping logistics. By 2014, I achieved my goal of woodworking full-time, and let go of my position at the Seneca Mill. In October of 2014, Corey Morgan Wood Works officially emerged as a standalone venture.

Establishing a shop on my property in 2017 marked a new chapter, blending my professional goals with my dreams of integrating work and family life. I also briefly expanded with apprentices. However, returning to solo operations in 2021 reflected my desire to stay intimately connected with the tools and wood, reaffirming my commitment to the craft.

It was by chance that we stumbled across the CustomMade site, and serendipity that we found Corey at Sandy Creek Woodworks. We had been searching out a craftsman in our area for sometime without success. Once we saw the photos of Corey's past work, we knew that our quest for a artisan was over.

Corey was quick to respond to our inquiry, and the process on selecting a style and slab was clear and concise throughout.

His vision on the table top construction was described well, and we are so happy that we trusted his suggestion. It could not have turned out any better for us!

Corey was very accommodating on our completion time frame, and pickup schedule. We wanted to have the table in our home by Thanksgiving, and he made it happen!

We would recommend Corey's work to anyone interested in a custom, quality, locally sourced piece, you will not be sorry.

I couldn't be more pleased with this entire experience from start to finish. Corey responded back to me in a timely manner after my initial inquiry, answered all of my questions and kept me in the loop during all stages of the process.
I was a little nervous custom ordering a coffee table sight unseen, as it were, (since every piece is one of a kind) but the end result is stunning. I'm thrilled.
Anyone looking for a gorgeous, hand-made piece of furniture will not be disappointed if this style is to your taste.
