Bandage Dress

$850

Dress was designed after the infamous Taylor Swift Suicide Plunge Bandage dress done by Herve Leger. It was designed for a very tall very curvy Air Force Officer for her military ball. Dress is made from strips of very soft elastic that have been sewn together. The top of the dress is lined with stretch satin and the en bien deep plunge bra to hold the shape and form of the dress. It has a hidden zipper closure at the back. Because the client was located in Texas and I am in Wisconsin fittings for her were not an option. To help ensure that the dress was properly fit and the correct length (client is 5' 11" and wore 3" heals) a live model was brought in who is almost identical in all measurements. She was brought in twice so that all aspects of the dress where accurate. All the beadwork was hand done. All of the rhinestones are heat pressed on. The larger stones where both glued and sewn on. To also help hold its shape the entire front of the dress was wired. Client was extreamly happy with the results though a few of the stones did fall off due to the glue not setting properly. The straps where also slightly too long on her and this is being corrected locally by a seamstress in Texas. As with any project that I do, my personal satisfaction guarantee covers all alterations that need to be made after the item has been completed (I cover all costs of any alterations that need to be made).

Custom sewing at its best! I do everything from basic mending to creating your dream wedding dress and everything in between. From cushions, to prom to curtains to Dance costumes, I can do it all.

I started sewing when I was in high school as a way to express my creative side. Both my mom and grandma were seamstresses and I found that I was pretty good at it too. While I never gave it up, life got to be hectic. We lost my younger brother when I was a senior in High School and then with college, getting married and having children it just got set off to the side.

Our first born was named Anthony Peter on January 8th, 2010. My aunt, who is determined to give every child born in my family a nickname, dubbed him Tony Bud (short for Anthony and Peter - my brother who we named him after and who had the nickname Bud - yes by the same aunt). Two months later my husband lost his job. In a way, I guess the saying "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" greatly applied to what would follow in our lives.

As it happened, my next door neighbor at the time needed new outdoor cushions made for her patio. I, in passing, said I knew how to make them. She was elated and went out that day, bought all the materials and wrote me a check for my service. It was at that point that I realized I could turn what was once a hobby into a business.

Later that same year, I started doing craft shows. We didn't have a name picked out yet for the business and when we were asked, my husband and I looked at each other and said "Tony Bud's". Thus Tony Bud's Sewing was born.

It has been 5 years now since I started sewing again on a full time basis. We now have three growing boys and run a "in town" farm with my parents. Our lives are full and very blessed.

I take great pride in what I make. For that reason alone, all of my projects always come with my personal satisfaction guarantee. You will always receive pictures of your item before final payment is due. Based on the measurements you send me, the item is guaranteed to fit. If alterations are necessary, I will cover the cost of said alterations.

I have helped to create stunning dresses for women, great coats for men, as well as something as simple as a blanket for a new mommy to be. I try not to limit myself in what I can do and I am always happy to work with anyone that needs custom work done. I strive to make your dream and vision a reality. I look forward to the years ahead and the many new people that my family and I will meet along the way.

First things first - my dress was beautiful and I had so many compliments on my wedding day--it was incredibly unique and it fit my personality and style. The process was difficult at times while it was being made, and I had to get another $190 in alterations when I received it, but the end product was great.

Becky was sick through most of the year she was making it, and this delayed communications and deadlines often. I tried to remain calm, but I was trusting someone in a different part of the country with my wedding dress…so that's hard to do! She definitely listened to what I wanted and made tweaks from her original design based on my feedback, which was great. When my dress came in the mail complete, it smelled of smoke for about 48 hours until it aired out (we figured out it was from the packaging she sent it in - pure panic, but it did completely go away on its own). The alterations I had done were on the sleeves (expected because they were made of tulle and stretched out easily), and then throughout the body to better align the shell and lining of the dress, seams, etc. I also had to get the bustle fixed because it only had one hook and it was ripping off from the weight of the dress when the bustle was put together.

I'll add final photos if I can figure it out - I was very happy with my final product. I'd say you should be prepared to have final alterations added once you receive the dress to make it perfect, but if you're looking for a unique style and one you're not finding in the stores, this is the way to go.

The project was supposed to be mailed by 12/20/18, in order to arrive by Christmas. When it wasn't mailed on-time, I purchased other Christmas gifts for my son, as I was concerned I was being scammed. I texted the maker, and she indicated that she was shipping the project out via overnight express, and that she has been awake for 36 hours completing various projects for clients. The project did end-up being mailed 12/22/18, but I didn't receive it until 12/24/18. When I opened the FedEx envelope, I immediately got a migraine. The costume smelled horribly of smoke; I am allergic to smoke. When I asked the maker about the smoke smell, she indicated that she did not smoke. Thereafter, she followed-up and said that no one in her home smokes. Regardless, I had to remove the smoke smell, so I asked the maker about care instructions for the project. She indicated to hand wash the item, which I did. When I washed the project by hand with water and Woolite, the blue color rubbed-off of the fabric. I don't know that I can blame the maker for this, as I chose the fabric via various internet URLs that were sent to me. However, I had no idea the fabric couldn't be laundered, or I wouldn't have chosen it (toddlers who wear costumes every day are obviously going to need them laundered.) This project was supposed to fulfill a seven-month-long dream for my son who is nearly five-years-old. I had no choice, but to let him open it on Christmas, regardless. He was surprised, and happy, but immediately remarked that the antenna on the mask were flopping over (not properly secured), and that the blue was rubbed-off of the fabric. Overall, I would have been satisfied, had the following occurred: 1). project been mailed according to the contract, 2). project not exposed to smoke, 3). project made with a fabric that could be laundered, and 4). antenna been secured on the mask. Overall, I am feeling like I did not receive the value that I paid for. I will be leary of working through this website, going-forward, as this was my first experience with CustomMade. sjm

First and foremost great, person and maker. Very good at what she does. All the seams, edges and pockets looks professional. Only reason for 4/5 stars was the collar on one item was two large and the sleeves of the same item were long when they were supposed to be short. Yet, all the other items were perfection!!!! Thank you for all your skills.
