Duffle Bag

$100

Client had two different WWII military bags that he had found. We took those old bags and created a brand new duffle bag. The outside pocket is actually an old hardware store apron. The inside fabric is vintage ticking fabric that he found. All of the original wording on the bags was preserved and used on the duffle.

Custom sewing at its best! I do everything from basic mending to creating your dream wedding dress and everything in between. From cushions, to prom to curtains to Dance costumes, I can do it all.

I started sewing when I was in high school as a way to express my creative side. Both my mom and grandma were seamstresses and I found that I was pretty good at it too. While I never gave it up, life got to be hectic. We lost my younger brother when I was a senior in High School and then with college, getting married and having children it just got set off to the side.

Our first born was named Anthony Peter on January 8th, 2010. My aunt, who is determined to give every child born in my family a nickname, dubbed him Tony Bud (short for Anthony and Peter - my brother who we named him after and who had the nickname Bud - yes by the same aunt). Two months later my husband lost his job. In a way, I guess the saying "Necessity is the Mother of Invention" greatly applied to what would follow in our lives.

As it happened, my next door neighbor at the time needed new outdoor cushions made for her patio. I, in passing, said I knew how to make them. She was elated and went out that day, bought all the materials and wrote me a check for my service. It was at that point that I realized I could turn what was once a hobby into a business.

Later that same year, I started doing craft shows. We didn't have a name picked out yet for the business and when we were asked, my husband and I looked at each other and said "Tony Bud's". Thus Tony Bud's Sewing was born.

It has been 5 years now since I started sewing again on a full time basis. We now have three growing boys and run a "in town" farm with my parents. Our lives are full and very blessed.

I take great pride in what I make. For that reason alone, all of my projects always come with my personal satisfaction guarantee. You will always receive pictures of your item before final payment is due. Based on the measurements you send me, the item is guaranteed to fit. If alterations are necessary, I will cover the cost of said alterations.

I have helped to create stunning dresses for women, great coats for men, as well as something as simple as a blanket for a new mommy to be. I try not to limit myself in what I can do and I am always happy to work with anyone that needs custom work done. I strive to make your dream and vision a reality. I look forward to the years ahead and the many new people that my family and I will meet along the way.

Let me preface this review by saying that I have had other experiences with this Maker and she's awesome (read the review under Green Wedding Dress, for a bit of the history of the project which interleaved with this one). The fact that this project went only OK, rather than superbly, I'm convinced is the result of a situation not really of her causing. So I feel bad not being able to leave as good a review as I think the Maker herself deserved, but I have to write what actually happened, and leave others to decide themselves what to think. I posted a last-minute kilt and jacket combination project for my now-husband to wear at our wedding. We'd let that slip for too long for the place we'd intended to get it from to be able to process the order, and Becky from Tony Bud's Sewing was already making my wedding dress. She offered to make my husband's outfit as well, and once we were sure she could do both in time we took her up on it gratefully. But it meant there was definitely not much time to spare. Once she took the order, she worked closely with me for a week just to get the right material and the pattern we wanted -- a difficult job, and one at which she did beautifully. Finally we'd worked out details and she could start making the outfit. The kilt was done first -- about four days before the wedding, and was laid aside to await the jacket. Then just as the jacket was finished, apparently a small child was visiting with their parents, and got hold of a scissors around Becky's sewing area. My husband's kilt was in a box already, so it was unharmed, but his jacket (and someone unrelated's wedding dress, we were told) was chopped to pieces. Becky made a heroic effort to get new material locally, and re-create the jacket in 36 hours of straight work without sleep, sending it out about Thursday evening for a Saturday morning wedding. But it wasn't enough. It was sent by 24-hour express, but failed to arrive in 24 hours anyway… it got to us somewhere late Saturday afternoon, after the wedding had already come and gone. When my husband tried it on, it proved not to fit anyhow… it was tight across the shoulders, and he couldn't wear it without discomfort. It may be alterable to fit him; we won't know until we take it to a tailor. Becky is a superb seamstress under normal conditions, and I have to think that either I made a mistake in taking the measurements I sent her for the jacket, or that she was redoing the jacket in such haste that there was a mistake in the construction which she would not have normally made. Certainly both the kilt (which she had made in relatively short time, but with normal sleep and break periods) and my dress (for which she'd had months of advance notice) turned out beautiful, and fit perfectly. I absolutely recommend working with Becky. But I might recommend negotiating a required delivery date that's a few weeks before you need the items, if there's a hard deadline. That way, if something went wrong in the process -- which is always a risk with home-based businesses, and more so when the assistants vary in number (or indeed existence) and there are health and family issues involved as well -- it could be absorbed and redone with leisure to spare. I absolutely do not blame her for what a child (who wasn't even hers!) did to her sewing area, but it's a hazard of home businesses that the person sometimes finds its way into the professional; know this is a possible issue if you hire her. But also know you'll be getting one of the best seamstresses on Custom Made.

I had such a wonderful experience with Becky and she made me the most beautiful dress. Not only was it more beautiful than I could have possibly imagined it was of high quality and with exceptional detail. She was as sweet as can be to work with and she always made me feel comfortable with the project during the process.I would recommend Becky to anyone searching for a dependable and most worthy seamstress and I will certainly use her again for my next costume.
