"Jacobean Trader" - Flemish Jacobean/Renaissance Era Demi-Lune Table

$5,700

The bold, strong lines of this table suggest that the owner is not of the genteel, ruling class. Its predecessor might have lived in the entry to a successful Flemish merchant or Dutch shipping magnate's home. The strong design elements of the base are centered in the bridle joint, interlocked, cross-buck stretcher. That stretcher is mortised into the strong "H" shaped lyre shaped legs, which are in turn mortised into horizontal placed stretchers, which are locked into the planked top by means of sliding dovetails. All of this joinery is true to the period. This is a true replica of a period piece, except for the timbers used and the finish applied. The top is 48" wide X 24" deep X 42" tall, constructed of American alder timbers, with medium distressing, a fruitwood stain and glaze, low VOC lacquer and bedded with a dark wax polish. Unlike many tables, this one is created with no hardware. It is all held together with glue and appropriate joinery. A similar piece could be made of any number of timber species that would keep it true to the period…cherry, walnut, beech, elm come to mind. If you need an entry piece to set off a cherished Delft porcelain vase filled with seasonal flowers, we can create one to fit your space.
