Set Of Two Pottery Serving Bowls In Cream With Blue Flowers

$40

This lovely set of two pottery serving dishes is glazed in a soft matte cream and features pretty stripes of light blue flowers with green stems and leaves. The two ceramic bowls are oblong in shape and rest on four small feet. Ideal as a chip and dip tray, for serving appetizers or snack, holding mail and loose change on a hallway table, or just as a centerpiece, the unusual scooped shape of these pottery bowls make them a unique gift. The smaller tray has one stripe of flowers going lengthwise and measures about 7.5 inches long, 4.5 inches wide and 2 inches tall. The larger tray measures about 11.5 inches long, 7.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall and is filled with horizontal bands of the flowers. The pieces are a stoneware clay and are food and microwave safe. The smaller dish can go in the dishwasher, hand wash the larger one.

I create thrown and slab-built stoneware that is grounded on my formal training in Architectural Engineering. Elements of buildings and the materials used to create them continue to fascinate me. My interest in this is continually renewed as I explore the ways in which clay can imitate some of these rich, tactile surfaces. Applying the basic principles of engineering to a medium as malleable as clay is a constant challenge and one that has kept my interest for over 12 years.

My most recent work has used drawings and photographs to create intricate images. Several of my pieces draw influence from recent trips to Chicago, Japan, and the Czech Republic. The surface of each piece is embellished with architectural details, images and found hardware, duplicated from plaster press molds. The clay is glazed with commercial glazes and washes to bring out the surface texture.
