Caywood School Overglaze On Ceramic Tile Mural And Matching Cannisters: Your Village Series
The ceramic tile mural with matching porcelain cannisters, 'Caywood School Farm', is based on my country property and rural life. My home is a former one room schoolhouse decommissioned in the 1940's. All featured images; chestnut trees, garden space, farm animals, surrounding landscape, neighboring farms, and houses are hand painted and fired with overglaze paints. The mural border is lined with chestnut fruit. Our yearly corn harvest became the theme for the florets which connect and unify the array of personalized images. The tile are conventional 4" x4" ceramic tiles. The matching porcelain cannisters were painted on four sides and the lids and fired to match the mural theme. This mural is installed over our commercial 3-bay sink. The style would be best defined in the "American Scene Painting" tradition.

Overglaze On Porcelain
Denise works with porcelain ware and tiles, traditionally produced for the “china painting” market. Her main focus is fine art paintings on select porcelain tiles. These tiles are produced for use as porcelain canvasses and differ from the conventional porcelain tiles used in wall and flooring applications. Their translucent white structure lends to striking detail and color with the traditional mineral-based paints that are layered and kiln-fired in multiple applications to achieve unique depth and lighting detail. These tiles are traditionally mounted, framed and displayed as conventional fine art paintings, and are capable of being displayed in backsplash/splashback installations. They can also be permanently installed in a conventional tile installation.
Porcelain and ceramic tile murals can also be rendered by the artist on high quality commercial unglazed, (underglaze,) or clear-glazed, (overglaze) tiles for permanent installation. Underglaze projects are subsequently finished with a kiln-fired clear glaze.
Custom-painted and kiln-fired ware can be created for any event, occasion or use from a wide selection of available manufactured fine white porcelain “blanks” to the customers specifications. Examples are available in the Portfolio. There are restrictions when ware will be used for food or beverage use.
