77" X 48" Solid Walnut Oval Tabletop (For Client's Tulip Table Base)

$1,095

PLEASE NOTE: I made only the top!. That is the client's base. The client sent me a pattern traced from the previous composite tabletop, which they wished to replace. This top is entirely hand-made tabletop (I do not use our CNC router:) It is built from carefully selected walnut and finished in Danish oil and satin wax, always the right finish for mid-century and 60s modern furniture. Shipping for this tabletop from San Diego to San Francisco was $125.00

Jonathan Walkey is retired professional furniture maker who now makes selected pieces for discriminating clients. I am a one man studio, specializing in decorative arts and crafts, mid-century, Greene & Green, etc. furniture. my own personal style generally includes contrasting hardwoods with beautiful grains and hand worked inlays. In between commissions I simultaneously work on personal studio furniture projects.

I was raised in Lincoln Massachusetts where my father was the director of the DeCordova Museum of modern art. My mother worked as an expert in fine crafts and furniture . I attended many arts and crafts classes and summer art camps at the Museum. I was trained as a silversmith at age 11 and at age 12 built a 10 foot kayak made of wood and canvas. I was a U.S. Navy trained aviation mechanic and earned my living for 15 years as a master mechanic, working mainly on motorcycles. I am also a former carpenter, criminal appellate attorney, credentialed teacher, professional writer, and painter.

Today I apply my talents and interests to building fine arts and craft furniture. My lifelong continuing education combines training of the mind with training of the hands. What you buy from Jonathan is fine art as well as heirloom quality furniture built to last many lifetimes. These qualities are reflected in the cost of my work, neither of which should ever be compared with that of commercial furniture.

John has been very easy & professional to work with. He accommodated my every wish to achieve table for between my two prized Stickley recliners. I just could not find anything remotely close that would meet my needs to what I had John make for me. I also did not want a mass produce table. Regrettably I have to rate the VALUE of this project at just 4 stars out of 5 only due to the exchange rate between our Canuck buck & the US dollar that made this a rather expensive but very appreciated piece of furniture for what it is but I could wait for our currencies to get on par again. I should have done this a year ago had I known of Custom Made. Thankx John

I am SO happy with the gorgeous, professional quality table Jonathan made for me! It is an absolute work of art - he made it with the utmost attention to every detail. He took the time to choose just the right boards and made sure the grains were lined up perfectly. It is exactly what I wanted. I feel so lucky to have found Jonathan, I would recommend him with the highest regard. He was so great to work with, and he shipped the table with such incredible care (all the way from CA to NY). It arrived in perfect condition. It is a custom designed heirloom piece for my family to be so proud of - THANK YOU Jonathan!!

For Base for glass-top 36 or 42" table - Ibi? Tipe? Tripod?

I purchased his "tipi" table in cherry wood. It's great and I would definitely use him again. The woodwork is perfect and the joining hardware (it comes apart in two pieces for shipping or storage) is all metal-on-metal. He installed two captive threaded sleeves, rather than screws-into-wood, which is higher quality than I was expecting. Definitely an A-plus.

Incredibly happy with our new breakfast table. We asked Jonathan to build a custom bar height breakfast table for us and sent pictures and measurements, and we got exactly what we envisioned. He was patient about our indecisiveness when it came to selecting wood and other features, and informative to help us with our decision. The table is gorgeous and everyone who visits asks about it and drools over the workmanship. This is our first piece of custom furniture, and what an amazing piece. We'll be back to Jonathan's shop for his coffee table next.
