17th Century Pirate Costume

$750

Drafted using an authentic French tailor's book from the 1700's, this historically styled and constructed outfit consists of a fully tailored weskit, button-fly fencing breeches, two shirts and one removeable, ruffled stock for dress wear. Due to the customer's budget, I did not use historically accurate fabrics. The weskit is made from a mixed content tweed, but all the tailoring work is period appropriate. The breeches are 100% cotton gabardine with metal fly and cuff buttons. The shirts are bleached and unbleached cotton muslin. Shirt buttons are plastic, but have the appropriate 2-hole style for the period. Painstaking attention to detail characterizes this project. All visible stitching was completed by hand. The inside-out view of the weskit is the interior before the lining was set. It shows the extensive tailoring structure beneath the lining. The remaining detail pictures show a period-appropriate breast heart appliqued on one of the shirts and the hand-sewn buttonholes. Although this outfit is called a costume, it is designed and constructed to be worn as every-day clothing by a serious re-enactor. Due to the large amount of handwork and pattern drafting involved, the project took about 6 months to complete.
