Open forms are designed to accent the figure/grain/unusual patterns in the wood by creating motion eliciting the viewer's eye to move in and around the vessel in order for the viewer to "see all the vessel has to offer." Often used as strictly an art piece, some of these vessels are used to display other items, such as Fruit, glass balls, and other small collections.

Artist Statement:
“Most wood turners use unblemished wood manipulating/adjusting each piece in an effort to express themselves through their work. I subscribe to a very different approach. I believe wood is a living element and possesses a spirit. I bring into harmony the personality and spirit of the wood and use my skills to expose this accord, so it maybe seen and appreciated. Beginning a metamorphosis during this process, which takes the commonly labelled “defects” in a piece, I transform them, so that they become the very feature that gives the piece its distinctive beauty. Highlighting blemishes rather than “turn them away”, my end goal is not only to release the inner beauty of the piece but also to preserve and enhance it for the future”.
Specializing by using only recycled woods, I make wood art from Southeastern woods I make one-of-a kind unique wood art for sale in galleries across the South East, direct sales or I can use client's wood (perhaps from their "Home place") "reading its spirit" and create unique wood art for them on a commission basis.
