Design in the arts has been a part of my life since I was in the Submarine service. The base had a wonderful shop, and I designed and made furniture. After I left the Navy, I continued making furniture and other projects in my garage. I eventually moved to Kona Hawaii, and opened a wood shop making gift items out of the local woods. While trying to make a cribbage board out of a piece of Kiawi wood, I had to curve the end of the cut up on the band saw instead of making it perfectly flat. I took one look and liked it and started making free form crib boards from then on out of Kiawi, Mamani and Coffee “drift” wood (trees that had died and were weathered),

I also made vases, bookends and boxes in the free form style of deigning that I love. I also did some custom furniture. I finally sold the business to pursue other endeavors.

20 years later after moving to the Northwest I finally set up shop again in my semi-retirement. Now the Cribbage boards and others are made from driftwood off the Oregon and Washington coasts. I have recently added freeform clocks, weather stations, mirrors and what ever else comes to mind using Maple, Purple Heart, Walnut and other exotic woods I have recently added metal and other exotic materials to my design portfolio. My imagination grows from one project to the next, and challenges me to try, and then perfect each new one.

Any of these projects can be made out of your choice of exotic woods or metals.
