One Realistic Purple Glass Raspberry Sculpture, Hand Blown and Life-Sized
Each realistic glass purple raspberry sculpture is about 3/4 inch high. I form them by melting colored glass rods in the flame of a torch. I build the raspberry one cell at a time using heat, surface tension, gravity and a couple of basic tools. No two are every exactly alike. Like a real raspberry, your sculpture will be hollow in the center. The drupelets will each have the slight vertical dent, and the surface will be slightly matted. I achieve variations in the color by custom-mixing several colors of glass rods together, by selective heating and cooling, or by melting powdered colored glass into the surface. I don't use paint, so the color will never fade or rub off.
Almost nothing in nature is completely round, smooth or even, so I avoid making my glass fruit and leaves too perfectly. I put on little splotches and speckles, make them a tidbit lopsided, and add other small imperfections so that each berry or leaf is unique. This makes them look much more lifelike.
These glass berries are lifelike enough to fool adults at first glance. Never display your glass berries where they could be confused with real fruit. Never put them in your mouth, even for fun, or allow anyone else to do so. Make sure to keep them out of the reach of children of any age.
