Hand Carved Wild Cherry Salt Cellar With Stone Lid.
This is a hand carved cellar, made with the help of a Wild Cherry tree from here on the island, the stone lid comes from the beach across the road from the shop. The copper hinge is made from salvaged bits, including ground wire from decommissioned power poles. The wee spoon which accompanies the cellar is carved of Black Locust, also from the island. Dimensions are roughly 9x3x3.5

For small custom sculpture needed4.8This was my first experience with custom made as well as my first time designing a project, from scratch, with an artist. My requirements were very specific *and* this was a 25th wedding anniversary gift for my husband so it had a lot of personal meaning to both of us. Joel was very patient and helpful with the design process. I considered several makers who responded to my request but settled on Joel because, after reviewing his portfolio, I thought he was the best choice to make my 'vision' manifest. I was right:). He put tremendous thought and care into the piece. He was very open to my feedback as we 'tweaked' the project to its wonderful completion. A family health issue impacted the timing, hence the four stars, but it was worth it to me to have the project really represent my husband's 'story' so getting it after the deadline wasn't important to me. Joel was very professional in how he handled the issue and I wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. Really a bit of poetry carved out of a block of wood. Joel added some extra, personal and poignant touches that made the piece entirely unique to my husband and me. We will treasure it always.
