Old Man Cane
I hand carved the old man's head for another project then decided to use it as a walking stick handle instead. I carved a great quote from Hemingway's "The Old Man and The Sea" on the shaft: "Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated."

I retired from the USAF after 28 years and now I make canes, walking sticks, jewelry and art pieces full time. The Quotable Walking Stick is a concept that I started. I find rare, unusual, and/or antique items to make into walking stick handles. Then I find an appropriate quote from literature, movies, music or elsewhere that I feel compliments the user.

For Walking cane4.8I wanted to get a hand-made walking cane for my husband's birthday. My daughter suggested that it have an elephant head on it as a tribute to my husband's days in India. Michael enthusiastically agreed to the project. He kept me abreast of the progress every step of the way - emailing and sending sketches and photos. My husband loves it! The only complaint - and this isn't Michael's fault per se - is that it took a while to arrive once shipped and I wasn't able to track it after it left California. But it made it and we're very pleased.

For Walking stick5.0Everything these reviews say are spot-on. Michael was fantastic--I approached him on this site about a walking stick I wanted to have made for my mother this Christmas. I had a few ideas kicking around, but time was tight, because I got around to it later than I should have. And yet, not only did Michael make my vision happen--and honestly, he made it better than I'd had in my head--but he did it in barely more than a week's time (including planning), chose a stunning piece of wood, and kept me posted before he made any major moves. And he was so nice throughout the entire process. I have been incredibly happy with the process and the end product, and I can't recommend him enough.
ALSO--it gets even better: since I had asked if there was any way that I could get the bird's beak painted, he actually pulled his wife, a painter, onto the project too, and she did a beautiful job painting not just the beak, but the whole bird. They're like a power crafting duo, and I can't thank them enough for making this walking stick happen.
