I hand-carved this Mermaid out of basswood then used two different stains to give it depth. The shell she is holding is carved from Olive wood. The shaft is one inch thick solid oak. She is ready to go on any adventure!

I retired from the USAF after 28 years and now I make canes, walking sticks, jewelry and art pieces full time. The Quotable Walking Stick is a concept that I started. I find rare, unusual, and/or antique items to make into walking stick handles. Then I find an appropriate quote from literature, movies, music or elsewhere that I feel compliments the user.

    Working with Michael Altom has been thee best! From start to finish he walked me through better ideas and kept me updated with every move. A real gentleman. He gave me just what I wanted and more! I just cant believe it. My friend has ALS and has a very difficult time walking and so I asked Michael to carve my friends life accomplishment on a walking stick or cane. He loves to hunt, fish, snowmobile, go four wheeling and loves his family! Michael expressed all of that for me in the most unique way imaginable! A real Artisan!!
