White Oak Poker Table

$15,000

Designed as a poker table, this reclaimed white oak and purple heart table boast a story and some weight. The white oak for the top and legs originated from within the timberframing of a barn in the midwest. Cut down and hand hewn a century ago, this wood has had some time to harden and crack. Purpleheart keys and 11 ounces of crushed turquoise were used to fill such cracks. The border is a laminated purpleheart frame with exposed lap joints at the corners. A traditional trestle table leg assembly keeps this design rooted in history while the osage orange pins lock the base together suggesting age and sensibility.

I build custom furniture, cabinets and interior woodwork. I have a large stock of air dried domestic hardwoods in house to choose from if desired, most of which I have harvested or reclaimed. A general emphasis on hand tools and traditional joinery is my trademark. However, my shop is well equipped with power machinery which helps the process along with the necessary shortcuts needed for efficiency. I focus on pushing boundaries in design while practicing traditional woodworking.
I attended Rosewood Studio school of Fine Woodworking in Almonte, Onterio in 2003 were I studied hand tools and joinery such as dovetails, mortise and tennons, etc. In 2006 I was awarded a Sam Maloof scholarship and attended a body conscious chair design class at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO led by Berkely anthropology professor Galen Cranz and chairmaker Issabelle Moore of Britain.
