Display Hutch

$3,200

This display hutch was built to showcase a small collection of tea pots or the like. Without the need to access its contents daily, only one door pull is in place. The smaller door can be opened once the first has been. Two small purpleheart drawers with osage orange pulls are tucked inside for small valuables. The carcass and legs are built using walnut from my stock of air dried lumber. The display bay is spalted horsechestnut from Greenough Park in Missoula. The leg stretchers are persimmon and ebony is used to pin certain joinery. I custom made the brass knife hinges and installed a hidden ebony door dampener to the underside of the cabinet top. This decorative piece would also feel at home at the end of any long hallway or entryway. Rooted as a Krenovian Piece, it speaks to the modern woodworking movement.

I build custom furniture, cabinets and interior woodwork. I have a large stock of air dried domestic hardwoods in house to choose from if desired, most of which I have harvested or reclaimed. A general emphasis on hand tools and traditional joinery is my trademark. However, my shop is well equipped with power machinery which helps the process along with the necessary shortcuts needed for efficiency. I focus on pushing boundaries in design while practicing traditional woodworking.
I attended Rosewood Studio school of Fine Woodworking in Almonte, Onterio in 2003 were I studied hand tools and joinery such as dovetails, mortise and tennons, etc. In 2006 I was awarded a Sam Maloof scholarship and attended a body conscious chair design class at Anderson Ranch in Snowmass, CO led by Berkely anthropology professor Galen Cranz and chairmaker Issabelle Moore of Britain.
