Thorsen Hall Table

$1,020

THIS TABLE IS AN interpretation of one designed and built by Charles and Harvey Greene for the William R. Thorsen House in Berkley, CA. The Greenes were renown architects and furniture designers of the Arts and Crafts period. • DIMENSIONS: 48"W x 36"H x 12"D • HERITAGE PERIOD: • Arts & Crafts, 1900-1941. • The Greene Brothers designed remarkable houses, including most of the furnishings for the very rich in California from the turn of the 20th century to the start of the Great Depression. Most of their surviving houses are now museums. Their unique furniture was never mass produced. They made one of each design for a specific house. Most of their original one-of-a-kind furnishings are in museums. • The "Cloud Lift" stretchers are a staple of Greene and Greene design. this is the only instance,, as far as we know, in which they were used up-side-down as table stretchers. Normally the cloud lift is at the bottom of a board. Piercings were also one of their favorite features. Most of their piercings were fairly complicated. These slotted piercings are unusual for their simplicity. • USES: • Hall Table • Kitchen work table (maple top recommended) • COLLECTION: The hall table is part of an ensemble that includes a coordinating dining table, serving table and tall floor cupboard all designed using the design elements pioneered by Greene and Greene. • MATERIALS: Our Thorsen Serving Table is available in five standard wood species: mahogany, black walnut, maple, straight grain fir and American cherry. The table top can be hard maple for durability when used as a kitchen table, with another, more decorative, wood making up the rest of the table. We can also make it without a top so you can add your own countertop to match the rest of your kitchen. We will send along plans for your counter-top fabricator. • CRAFTSMANSHIP: We hand craft our Hall Table out of the solid hardwood and select hardwood veneers with the precession joinery typical of fine Arts and Crafts Period furnishings. • STAINING & FINISHING: Finished in our seventeen-step hand-applied finish with top coats of durable and nearly indestructible polyurethane, this is a piece designed and built to last many lifetimes with minimal care. We also offer custom finishes including hand-polished lacquer. • We can also match most finishes. If you need to match the finish of your existing furniture, contact us to discuss your requirements. • CUSTOMIZATION: As is with all our our completely hand made furniture, you can customize it to fit your exact requirements with any size and combination of drawers and shelves that will fit into the case. To discuss customization, please contact us. • PROVENANCE & WARRANTY: The table is signed by the craftsman who makes it, and comes with a certificate of provenance and, usually, a copy of the plans and drawings from which it was made. It is warranted in writing against defects in workmanship for as long as you own it.. Contact us for a copy of our "No-Nonsense, Plain-English, Limited Warranty"
