This personalized handmade woodland wedding ceramic tree trunk log is hand carved with your name, a saying, a date in a heart and is a beautiful way to commemorate Valentine's Day or say congratulations to a graduate, a wedding or anniversary couple, BFF, someone who has gotten a new job, new parents or baby, a new house, retirement, engagement, etc. It would make a unique keepsake, for him, her, grandma and grandpa, mom and dad, best friend, etc. I create these aspen (some call them birch) tree trunks out of stoneware clay, carve in the knotholes and lines that are so indicative of the quaking poplar tree (you might know it as a birch tree in the East) and then I etch in your message before the first firing in the kiln. Pottery stains are used to bring out the carvings and the color of the aspen leaves that I attach. Then in the final glaze firing, I only glaze the leaves with a glossy translucent glaze which provides a wonderful contrast to the unglazed matte finish on the rest of the tree trunk. It comes ready with hang with a wire attached on the back. These measure about 17.5" high x 3.25" across and are around 2" deep. It will take me about 4-6 weeks to complete a custom order for you. If you'd like a gift card enclosed with this item, leave me the wording and I'll be sure to include it for you. I am a studio potter who works in porcelain and stoneware creating one of a kind, functional pottery including whimsical teapots and tea cups, bowls, casseroles, plates, tumblers, platters, vases and tiles.
I have studied under such renowned potters as Clary Illian, Lorna Meaden, Chris Gustin, Steven Hill, Diana Fayt, Meira Mathison, Sylvie Granitelli, Julia Galloway, Bonnie Seeman, Sarah Jaeger, and Sandi Pierantozzi. From each of these wonderful artists, I usually take away a new technique or way of creating that I then incorporate into my own pottery voice.
I am a founding member of the Steamboat Clay Artisans and work with this group on an annual Soup Bowl Supper fundraiser, a holiday sale, summer farmer's market, and educational programs.
In March 2013, my work was featured in the e-commerce publication of Better Homes and Gardens.
My work isalso featured in Best Of America Pottery and Woodworking Artists & Artisans Vol.1 by Kennedy Publishing. And it is featured in the November 2010 issue of AARP magazine.
In April 2009 I was one of the speakers at the national clay conference (NCECA) in Phoenix talking about online selling.
Absolutely beautiful piece that my wife adores, thank you Deb for a great experience.
Exactly what was ordered! Progress well communicated and delivered in a timely manner
I can't say enough nice things about this company and the owner Deb Babcock. She worked with me during the process, kept me informed of the progress of my order and even contacted me before it arrived. Then asked for confirming and if I had any concerns. I look forward to working with this company again and highly recommend them Thank you
Thank you for the very beautiful punch bowl set. Much appreciated. The rice bowl set is also great.
Deb was most accommodating and even shipped the mugs as promised so I would have them before Christmas! She was most helpful in the design process.
