As an artist, I create quilts with many patterns and images. These quilts were all made to incorporate family heirloom textiles. Most of them were tablecloths. Then, I used additional fabrics to create a composition, and hand quilted the piece together. I love to work with fabrics that have personal meanings behind them, other examples include, sheets, clothes, and flags. These quilts are 5x5', but I can work with you to find the right size as a wall hanging, throw, or bedding. The quilt featured here is titled, "Ice Cream," It was made centered around and ice cream cone print, and also includes fabrics from my grandmother, and fabrics that I dyed by had with turmeric. Also seen is a 40x40" commissioned baby quilt.
Heidi Parkes
I am an artist, trained at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I inherited a family tradition of quilt making from my maternal grandmother.
I specialize in using found fabrics, and transform them into a quilt rich with memories. Your family heirloom textiles can be incorporated with my fabric collection to create a one of a kind work of art for your home, office, or creative space. I use a sashiko inspired hand quilting technique that employs thicker thread for a highly visible quilted line.
I look forward to collaborating with you to create a unique work of art!
