Sankofa

Douriean is an artist who creates experiences and evokes emotion through jewelry and bamboo sconces. Her passion is using the original purpose of jewelry to adorn people of influence and tell the story of the creators and visionaries of our era and support others in finding their creative expression.
Her studies in South Africa began the inspiration for her work and offered a new lens to life. The cultures she came in contact with gave her a hands-on approach to experience practical art that is not just for aesthetic purposes but an expression of everything that encompasses one’s life. Living with and seeing these things made to understand that art comes from within and is a natural occurrence within. This belief is a direct reflection of her work.
Along with creating, she has taught youth in New Orleans to create jewelry from the understanding that their creativity is what makes them authentic and should be celebrated.
Her desire is for the people she interacts with, whether teaching or a client, to see themselves within the art and feel the freedom she feels when she’s creating and become inspired to be creative themselves.
