This 11" by 14", acrylic painting on canvas, is of a Bewick's Wren, a bird native to Arizona. This bird painting is based on a photograph by wildlife photographer Stan Tekiela (in his "Birds of Arizona Field Guide"), who has given me permission to use his bird photos as a basis for my bird paintings. The Bewick's Wren has a bright white chest with a tinge of peach. He is perched on the old rotted outcropping of a tree with textured bark. I basecoated the bird in dark complementary colors, and then built up the bird's final colors, layer by layer, with thin strokes, which resulted in the feathery, tuft-like texture. The bark of the tree was painted with quick heavy strokes of color to mimic a rough texture. The canvas has been sprayed with clear acrylic gloss varnish to keep the colors bright, and has been signed by the artist. This painting ships flat in a no-bend cardboard box. This painting is ready made and sells for $150. However, if you like my style of painting birds and have a different bird in mind for a painting, I can work with you on the creation of a painting with your choice of bird in any one of a number of different settings available. Shipping and handling for this painting is $25.
