This striking, large Table Lamp is handmade from a spectacular repurposed vintage Railroad Marker Sign, an antique tolle metal lampshade, and reclaimed lamp hardware from a salvaged atomic-age lamp. It is the work of Pennsylvania artist Ed Bennett. The Railroad Marker Sign was purchased from a local Philadelphia Salvage Company and was listed as "from the 1920's/1930's". It is a very unique sign showing wonderful patina from decades of use. I believe the numerals to be either porcelain or baked enamel. They are deep, midnight blue in color and show some rust staining. The heavy steel mounting bracket has heavy rust and displays wonderful rustic colors. The dimensions of the front number portion of the sign is 7" x 25". It makes an excellent, sturdy support for this classic lamp. The mounting bracket (which holds the numbers), has been attached to a 26" galvanized post that was handmade from distressed galvanized sheet steel wrapped around a frame made from 5/4 Pine. The circular ends of the post are capped with reclaimed barnwood that retains it's original weathered white paint. It is designed to appear as though the vintage railway sign it is still signaling from it's original perch on an old steel pole next to the tracks! The lamp is secured to a weighted base repurposed from an old atomic age lamp that was too heavily damaged to save. The dimension of the base is approximately 7.5" round. It has been hand painted to resemble the yellow Railroad Crossing signs of the 50's and 60's. The etal lampshade is an antique Tolle shade with an impressively large 20" circumference. It still retains its original Underwriters Laboratory Sticker on the underside (I'm guessing it's from the 50's). It has been faux painted to resemble a weathered Railroad Crossing sign. The warm, rustic colors were applied over the cool grey mottled original finish and then it was lightly distressed. It complements the vintage, rusted Marker Sign and completes the "Railroad Theme" of this wonderful, one-of-a-kind lamp. Whether you are an avid train collector, a railway buff, uber cool, or downright traditional, this striking table lamp will certainly set your living room or foyer apart!
