Razor Bade Art Portrait Of Indian Chief

WOW…it's made out of razor blades!!! A typical response from gallery patrons when informed the unique work of art they have been staring at for several minutes, is indeed, made completely out of razor blades. Described as "one of the most dangerous artists in America", he painstakingly HAND CUTS, grinds, shapes, oxidizes, and paints individual razor blades and then adheres them to large masonite panels. The blades form overlapping patterns and textures that, when viewed as a whole, are not immediately recognizable as individual blades, but complex images. That is the true essence of every piece of Ed Bennett original razor blade art. Having pioneered this unique medium over 25 years ago, his recent works have evolved from his signature Americana-themed abstracts to more complex portraiture and lifestyle / wildlife scenes. The featured work here was just recently completed and is titled "Solemn Great Chieftain". It depicts a Great Indian Chief pondering his future as the sun sets over the red cliffs behind him. As the light fades from his surroundings, he is left alone with his thoughts. Perhaps thinking "what will become of this tranquil, peaceful land?" This work required over 50 hours of hand cutting and manipulation to complete. It was created utilizing my signature razor blades as well as a few different types of blades I recently acquired. The hand cut feathers that make up his headdress were particularly time consuming as each one is individually cut and etched.PLEASE NOTE that all blades are permanently sealed under high quality artist's materials. You can run your hand over the surface of any of the works without fear of cuts or scratches. The reclaimed barn wood frame is also handcrafted by the artist. It is made from 100 year old barn wood from Northeastern PA. It has a rustic grey appearance which compliments the piece perfectly and will be the star of any room. Whether perched on a mantle in your rustic lodge or cabin, or hung on a wall in any style room, this painting will definitely be the central focal point.
