277 circles wrapping continuously around three sides of a Cherry Box, layout and carving done by hand. The interior of the urn is accessed by removing a panel held by magnets to the base. The space between is large enough to house letters or other small mementos. Another panel is held in place with screws. A secondary base made of Underwater Beech holds the urn vertically and tips it back at a slight angle improving the filtering of light down through the pattern. I made my first urn for my grandfather's ashes at my grandmother's request. The Pattern of Life Urn is the most custom example of the phi urn series that I began designing after working on the first urn. All of my Urns are wooden boxes, dovetailed at the ends. All of my dimensions relate by the Golden Mean. I use recycled and reclaimed wood and I finish it naturally allowing all of the natural grain and sometimes weathering and staining tell it's story.

Hi. My name is Daniel Gremillion, I am an artist, designer and woodworker in Minneapolis, Minnesota utilizing the finest recycled and reclaimed hardwoods the Midwest has to offer. My business, DVG Fine Arts and Framing, LLC. is about art, math, craftsmanship, design and community, and it's about recycling America's past into it's future. .
My company began as a picture framing studio, where I make my own moldings and offer Conservation Framing. But once I had the equipment… a tough economy, client requests and curiosity led me to make Cabinets, Cutting Boards, Coat Racks, hair sticks and Funeral Urns.
