This pair of old roof slate tiles are painted with either pink roses or pale peach roses in acrylic paints. Behind the growing roses, depicted in every phase of life from bud to rose hip is the suggestion of a brick wall. Butterflies are painted in mid-flight and a bee is also visiting the flowers. Each piece I do is hand painted and unique. A leather cord is threaded through the original nail holes in the slate and is secured with a knot and a pretty ceramic bead. The slate is approximately 24' tall and 12" wide and 7 pounds in weight. I could do something especially for you. Do you have a favorite flower you would like me to paint for you? I can do a variety of floral designs similar to these which are already in homes of loving owners. Please contact me if you would like to commission something similar.

I am Sue Banks, a self-taught artist who works in craft acrylics, usually on surfaces that do not require framing, such as furniture, household objects, and stones. I work on anything from vintage pieces to unfinished new items. Many of the projects shown here are examples of past work. Each project is always unique, and most are custom ordered. I work on items supplied by the client or on items procured in conjunction with a client’s request. I specialize in re-purposing items by decorating them with acrylic paint in hyper-realism and Trompe L'oeil style. I paint a very wide range of subject matter from flowers to stones to animals and insects to sneakers to teacups. My work is intensely colored, detail oriented and joyful. I work from actual objects and photos which are often supplied by the client, to create works to a client’s specifications. Working from reality is most effective for trompe l’oeil designs.
