I painted this pale blue Hydrangea just as it was about to burst open to full bloom. I love the delicateness I was able to achieve with the life size petals. I included a visiting bee in a softer focus to capture his motion in flight. The small plaque is only 9" X 7" and is edged in shades of antique gold. Painted Furniture by Sue
I am Sue Banks, a self-taught artist who works in craft acrylics, usually on surfaces that do not require framing, such as furniture, household objects, and stones. I work on anything from vintage pieces to unfinished new items. Many of the projects shown here are examples of past work. Each project is always unique, and most are custom ordered. I work on items supplied by the client or on items procured in conjunction with a client’s request. I specialize in re-purposing items by decorating them with acrylic paint in hyper-realism and Trompe L'oeil style. I paint a very wide range of subject matter from flowers to stones to animals and insects to sneakers to teacups. My work is intensely colored, detail oriented and joyful. I work from actual objects and photos which are often supplied by the client, to create works to a client’s specifications. Working from reality is most effective for trompe l’oeil designs.
