A stylish and aromatic leather and cedar pannier for your bicycle, perfect for the contents of your pockets on a ride. Named "the pocket pannier", this side bag is designed to hold the contents of your pockets during a ride. The large size is big enough to hold the Kryptonite Mini Evo 5 u-lock. Hand-finished USA-made thick vegetable tanned leather is wrapped around aromatic (and sustainably harvested) Northwest-grown, FSC-certified cedar side panels. Cedar is lightweight. This bag weighs only 11 oz. Handsome chamfered top flap stays tight with a turn-buckle closure. The clean, modern design and rounded geometric shape were designed for function. Rounded on the bottom so nothing gets stuck in a lost corner and rounded on the top to create a tighter closure that's a more natural form for the leather. Mount it to most any front or rear rack, similar to the u-lock holster. The top loop wraps around the rim of the rack and is 2 1/4" wide and secured to the pannier with Chicago screws. An adjustable belt on the back of the pannier loops around the vertical struts of the rack. The cedar is hand finished using a natural beeswax and lemon oil wood preserver. The leather is hand-finished using a combination process including Walnut Studiolo's weatherproofing dressing. My design was road tested by riders on the East and West Coast (thanks, Pops!) and the contents hold secure. The leather pictured here is dark brown (and honey in the 4th picture). Hi, I'm Geoffrey Franklin. I'm an 8th generation Oregonian, born and raised in Beaverton and Weston, Oregon. I graduated from the University of Oregon Architecture School. I run Walnut Studiolo with my wife, Valerie. I design and craft all the products in my workshop, and Valerie runs the business side.
Bicycle accessories are my core focus but I love good design, as an architecture student, and I loved learning how to work leather as a medium. Eventually I also started enjoying the juxtaposition of leather and wood. In these products, I'm expressing my love for good design, architectural concepts, and natural materials in products that I would want to use myself…and I do use myself. I field-test all my products until I'm comfortable with them before listing them on our shop.
My goal is to make high-quality, beautiful, durable, and most of all functional solutions to everyday problems. Thank you for buying small and handmade. I put my heart in everything I make.
