Braintan Leather Plains Style Soft Soled Moccasins

Feel the kiss of the earth under your feet in these traditionally made plains-style moccasins. The photo is a pair of men's size 9 moccasins with uppers made from brain tanned black tailed deer hide. My husband and I do all the brain tanning, and he bow hunts many of the deer and elk we use in our leather work. These animals are sacred and we treat them with great respect. That love and reverence goes into all my moccasins. The soles are either medium or heavy weight buffalo, your choice, for durability and strength. I do not use rawhide, these moccasins have soft soles for comfort, and are often worn in ceremony. I would love to make moccasins exactly fitted to your feet. All I need is a drawing of the bottom of your foot and a measurement of the highest part of the arch of your foot. Feel free to contact me for more thorough instructions. I can also make custom moccasins for whole and half size men's and women's shoe sizes. I never use a sewing machine, all stitching is done by hand with an awl and sinew. The color of brain tan varies slightly due to natural differences in smoking and in the hides themselves. Computer monitors also may represent colors differently. The leather is all generally in the tan to yellow-tan color of traditionally smoked leather. I can offer many additional custom additions, such as antler buttons and bead work, as well as mid-calf and high-top moccasins. The base price represents plain low-top moccasins.
