This railing was custom designed and built for a mountain home in Dillon, Co. The clients wanted a railing with a "Modern Mountain" feel. They wanted it to have a repeating pattern, and lines that reminded them of nature. We came up with the idea of suspending a forged element through a drifted hole, and ran with it. Once we had drawn up a full size sketch, and received customer approval, we began constructing jigs and forming components. The pattern had to be adjusted to fit three different railing dimensions, while staying within the requirements of building code and maintaining visual consistency. Every element on this railing was hand hammered and manipulated, forged from A-36 mild steel. For the finish, we die-ground and planished all welds, wire brushed all surfaces, chased out all moisture, neutralized the steel, applied patina, and then applied several coats of a high quality clear satin lacquer. All bolt heads were dressed and finished in the same fashion. The railing that connects the middle level and the basement is upset on both ends, creating a nice transition. I look forward to making similar use of wraps and floating elements in future projects. Pricing is per foot.
