Custom Mixed Media Mosaic Frame For 5x7 Photo

Custom Mixed Media Mosaic Frame For 5x7 Photo

$175

This is an example of a custom frame that tells a life story through the incorporation of black and wide photographs reduced a placed under glass tiles. It also contains a variety of motifs (musical notes, horse shoes, crown, typewriter) and words (destiny, altered, cherish) that tell the recipient's story as a former Miss America, incest surivivor and advocate, wifre, mother, author and motivational speaker. While I created this pieces based upon a book, this type of biographical piece requires significant input from the client about the potential recipient. I begin with a 12x12 MDF frame with an opening for a 5x7 photo and I applied a variety of materials including ceramic tile, stained glass, china shards, marbles, faux pearls, vintage buttons and jewelry including several lockets, other found objects. In lieu of traditional grout, the space between the pieces is filled with a mixture of seed beads and tiny holeless beads.

For the past 12 years, I have been creating mixed media mosaics specializing in capturing a memory, person, event, in a three-dimensional format of a photo frame. My commissioned works tell a story so I make every effort to interview the client and get details and preferably, tangible items to incorporate into the project. It is truly a collaborative effort and labor of love.

I have also applied the mosaic medium to other whimsical creations such as faux multi-tier cakes and cupcakes.

My method- I apply a variety of traditional mosaic pieces including ceramic tile, stained glass, marbles, china shards, and eclectic items like vintage jewelry, watches, buttons, hardware, coins, keys. I can also incorporate paper items like wedding invitations and birth announcements and photos under glass tiles. In lieu of regular grout I use sand, crushed pebbles, seashells, and seed beads.
