Hand Made Leather Edition Of The Grimorium Verum

$100

This item is a hand tooled leather bound edition of the Grimorium Verum, a grimoire fron the Solomonic cycle of books on magic. This handmade edition reflects an edition published by Alibeck, The Egyptian at Memphis in 1517. The book dimensions are 6"x9"x1-1/2," pages are 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" 24 lb. Southworth parchment. The front cover is adorned with "The Hexagram of Solomon," the back cover has "The Pentagram of Solomon." The overall tone of the dyed leather as well as the handtooling, binding and finishing of the leather conveys an impression of great antiquity, medieval elegance covered with the grime of ages. Binding is done with lacing with the lace holding the pages together forming two bookmarks terminated with beads. The parchment pages do not look machine cut and convey craftsmanship of a pre-industrial era. They have been aged to give the impression of antiquity. The book is held shut mechanically by a loop of lacing on the back cover which pulls tight around the leather button on the front by pulling on the double lacing with the brown wooden bead. A tug on the lace loop loosens it so the book can be opened.
