This item is a hand tooled leather bound blank book with an Egyptian Ankh embossed on the front cover. Measuring 4-1/2" by 6" and a little over an inch thick, it has 100 4-1/4" by 5-1/2" leaves (200 pages) of 24 lb. Southworth parchment paper. This is an ideal book to use as a journal, a book of shadows, diary, or whatever else you can think of. The ankh on the cover is deeply embossed and covered in hieroglyphics. The overall tone of the dyed leather as well as the general funkiness in the handtooling, binding and finishing of the leather conveys an impression of great antiquity. There is no metal used in the construction of this book, binding is done with lacing with the lace binding the pages forming a bookmark. The pages do not look machine cut and convey craftsmanship of a pre-industrial era.
Gene's Leather Stuff
Gene's Leather Stuff is a one-man leathercrafting operation centered around instrument straps, harmonica cases and leather books of various sorts.
I contacted Gene with several questions about a project I wanted him to work on as a gift for my son. I'm pretty picky when it comes to leather goods and particularly when it comes to gifts. Gene was FANTASTIC at working with me on every little detail that went into the journal cover he created for me. A couple of rounds of back-and-forth discussion about this color and that, what kind of binding, etc. etc. etc. and soon we reached the starting point. Once the project was finished he sent pictures of the final result and I was bursting at the seams with satisfaction because of the spot-on job he did. I just gave the gift to my son for Christmas and he nearly blew a gasket at how awesome and unique this leather journal cover was. Thanks, Gene! You've earned a couple of very happy customers. -Efrem
I worked with Gene to create a custom leather journal cover for my husband. He took my vision and worked with me to make sure we could create something very unique with my husband's intricate logo. My husband loved it! The only bummer was that even though Gene paid for expedited shipping, it came a couple days after my husband's birthday. He was patient and the wait was worth it.
I consider myself an artistic kind of guy and Gene knocked my project (an amazing harmonica case) out of the park! It was just was I was I was looking for and then some. I have already spoke to him about my next project for him. He also has some really cool items in his gallery that blow my mind.
