Roy was looking for a way to break out of the strict symmetrical geometric patterns that he usually chip carves. Snakes seemed like a good way to do that with their naturally curving figure. The twin snakes on one side are inspired by the medical caduceus. Snakes symbolize healing, among many other cool things. We're always pleased when we see them hanging out in our vegetable garden. That means the little critters that want to cause trouble aren't. These bellows are made of basswood. We finish the wood with shellac, a natural resin that enhances the depth of the wood grain. The bag consists of 2-3 ounce leather, very supple and able to produce a strong draft. We build the bellows with a strong steel hinge (covered by the leather) for dependability and a long life. They come with a rawhide lace tied to the handle, making them easy to display. They measure 20-1/4" long, 7-3/8" wide, 5" deep when open, and 2" deep when closed.

Laughing Coyote Woodworks is a small woodworking business that makes its home in the Green Mountains of southwestern Vermont. Roy learned his craft from his father, Klein, who shared his lifelong love of wood and handcrafted furniture and accessories with his son. When Klein died in 1990, Roy inherited his tools and has been mastering his craft ever since.
If it's made out of wood, we can create it. If you can imagine it, we can build it! We've built caskets, industrial fixtures, speakers, doors, a music box shaped like a Bible; the list goes on. We're happy to make variations on our standard products or create something completely new. We'd love to work with you from your drawings and ideas and turn them into something lasting for your home.
