Rick was accommodating of our special requests. He completed the personalized keepsake box quickly, shipped it with special instructions and our son "LOVED IT." I will do the same for our second son when he turns 18.

I ordered a 1" wood engraved three ring binder. Due to the width of the hinge leafs the binder turned out to be 2" thick and hence, when full, looks empty and the binder came missing a piece of hardware. I may be able to save it by fitting the hinge leafs under the binder ring, drilling new hardware holes and running the spine through a table saw. The maker seems very sincere but we apparently had a major failure of communication.

Great person to work with; very timely, professional, and open to feedback. Our sign came out great. Would highly recommend Rick for any project.

Rick was very easy to work with and answered our messages very quickly. On this particular project, we had to communicate often and he made our item exactly as we asked. He was willing to do whatever was needed to make sure our project was what we envisioned. AND IT WAS!! I would highly recommend Rick and will use him again for any woodworking projects in my future.

These boxes turned out beautifully. Rick was very patient and quick responding to my many questions and my shipment arrived more quickly than I expected. I would definitely recommend Grandpa's Cave and hope to order again in the future.

This was a great experience and I would definitely use Rick and Grampa's Cave again for any woodworking project. Rick was extremely responsive and the turn around time on the product was great. Overall a great experience! I would have benefited from a little more consultation and input from Rick. I had an idea and design in mind, and Rick delivered that, but I am not a crafts person and some more guidance and direction and suggestions on the design would have been welcome.

I originally was looking for a custom cutting board. Rick was one of many who answered my inquiry. I chose him because I liked the look of the cutting board he pictured and also because of the way he represented himself in his little bio. When he sent me a picture of cutting board, it happened to be by a wood vw bus with surfboards on top which he also makes. Living in S. Cal and having a family of surfers, this really drew my interest. I ordered both from him and was extremely pleased with both items. His workmanship is first class. He is also very helpful when it came to some questions I had about engraving. This was a great experience in getting two very customized products that I just love!!!

I am writing this review as the recipient of the Canoe Paddle Wedding Favours produced by Rick Rehling. My fiancée and I, avid canoers/portagers, knew exactly what we wanted as wedding favors. After countless frustrating hours of searching on-line, we found only one other company that could provide us with 4-6" canoe paddles with our names and wedding date on them but they wanted $10 a piece just for the paddles - without laser engraving!! We knew this price was unreasonable and declined his proposal. My daughter, who has used "Custom Made" in the past, on a whim put out a request for proposal with details of what we were looking for and our budget for such. Rick Rehling of Grampa's Cave was one of three individuals who responded. Although all three the quotes came in around the same price range, Rick’s included everything we wanted – size, engraving in Cherry wood. Rick's customer service was impeccable and he even provided a sample of the paddle – not a drawing - but an actual paddle including laser engraved with our names and wedding date, to ensure it was exactly what we were looking for. There was a tiny glitch when we were trying to submit our 50% deposit via the website, but after much back-and-forth we discovered that it was a USA/Canada issue (we should have reiterated that we were from Canada). The miscommunication resulted in an increase in cost of the quote by about $1/per paddle due to shipping to Canada and the terrible Canadian dollar exchange rate, but to me it was still well worth the added cost in order to get exactly what we wanted. Within 48 hours, the job was completed and ready for shipping. Rick’s customer service was second-to-none, we were kept informed throughout the entire process and the paddles were produced quickly without compromising the quality of the work. I would not hesitate to use Rick’s service again and would refer him to anyone out there looking for that certain something that they just can’t seem to find anywhere else. Rick came through for us and we are so delighted with the outcome!
