Plates And Platters
Samples of my work in plates and platters. The sizes vary from 12" up to 30". The wood is Big Leaf Maple burl (the natural edged one), Jatoba (the one with the cabochon inset), Bubinga (the one with the sapwood flash at 1:00 o'clock - this one is 30" across) and Hard Maple, the light-colored one. The last is nearly a bowl as it is quite deep for a platter. I often make them as wedding presents and, since they are ideally suited for holding fruit, call them the "be fruitful" bowls.

ShopDog Turnery
I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.
In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.
I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.
Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

Prior to starting the project he notified me of his upcoming schedule for the coming months to set expectations on timeliness. During the creation project Jim adjusted designs based on feedback while still injecting some of his own artistry and creativity to make a great finished product.
