Cedar Signs
These signs can be done in Western Cedar, which is light brown, or Eastern Aromatic Cedar, which is red. The text can be inset or can be standing above the background. ShopDog Turnery
I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.
In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.
I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.
Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

He also included meticulous instructions on how to prep the board before use and how to care for it in order to keep it functional and looking beautiful. The dimensions and details were specific to what we requested. I highly recommend Mr. Barbour for your custom made job!

May 26, 2015When trying to decide what to get my 4 year old granddaughter for her birthday, I was baking and realized I was using a rolling pin that my mother had gotten for me when I was a youngster. So, perfect! A rolling pin with her initials and date of birth on it. I went right to Custom Made and found Jim Barbour. It took about a month (which he explained in advance) and it was worth the wait. It is magnificent. My husband, who owns a wooden boat and does many things with wood, was impressed as well. Beautiful shape, excellent engraving...better than I had hoped for. Thanks, Jim for the spectacular work. Hopefully when she is baking at 45, she still has this rolling pin!
