These batons are made to length and grip style specification. The handle is made to fit your hand and the balance point varies with whether you want a fully balanced baton or one with a bit of tip weight. For 12" batons the balance is within 1/4" of the front of the handle, for 14" within !/2", and for 16" within the first 1". Of course for shorter jazz batons the balance will be further back. If you wish, I can place the balance into the handle, giving the grip an entirely different feel. Additionally I can provide an engraved presentation case if this is to be a gift. ————————————————————— KEYWORDS: conductor, orchestra, music, baton, conduct, band, music conductor, music teacher, director, director's baton, band director, musician, music teacher gift

I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.
In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.
I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.
Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

For Amy's SignI am beyond happy with the personalized sign that Jim Barbour made for me! The price was reasonable, he gave me a variety of great options from which to choose, his communication with me was excellent, and the sign arrived in a timely manner, shipped very safely. This one-of-a-kind sign will hang with pride in our new camper and I would definitely recommend his work! Thank you, Jim!

For Hardwood Rolling PinsWhen trying to decide what to get my 4 year old granddaughter for her birthday, I was baking and realized I was using a rolling pin that my mother had gotten for me when I was a youngster. So, perfect! A rolling pin with her initials and date of birth on it. I went right to Custom Made and found Jim Barbour.
It took about a month (which he explained in advance) and it was worth the wait. It is magnificent. My husband, who owns a wooden boat and does many things with wood, was impressed as well. Beautiful shape, excellent engraving…better than I had hoped for.
Thanks, Jim for the spectacular work. Hopefully when she is baking at 45, she still has this rolling pin!

I especially liked Mr. Barbour's prompt communications with me about my custom, personalized cutting board project and I was promptly informed of the status of my project along the way. I highly recommend this craftsman.
