These batons are made to length and grip style specification. The handle is made to fit your hand and the balance point varies with whether you want a fully balanced baton or one with a bit of tip weight. For 12" batons the balance is within 1/4" of the front of the handle, for 14" within !/2", and for 16" within the first 1". Of course for shorter jazz batons the balance will be further back. If you wish, I can place the balance into the handle, giving the grip an entirely different feel. Additionally I can provide an engraved presentation case if this is to be a gift. ————————————————————— KEYWORDS: conductor, orchestra, music, baton, conduct, band, music conductor, music teacher, director, director's baton, band director, musician, music teacher gift
ShopDog Turnery
I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.
In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.
I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.
Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.
I had an idea and decided to have it made into something real as a nice gift. Posted the project and the same day I got a proposal. We went over the details and some concepts and decided materials. The shipping was very fast and now I have it, it looks just how I imagined it, its very nice, high quality, and will be a treasured gift went I present it to the new owner of it. Thank you very much Jim, I'll definitely come back with any other ideas that fit your fine expertise.
Perfect. The box is exactly what I wanted. Working with Jim was easy and straightforward. He said what he was going to do and then he did what he said. That's the way things should be done. Thanks Jim.
Very good!
I am so lucky that I ended up with Jim as my project's maker. Jim was extremely professional, helpful and timely throughout the project. He helped provide me with options to pick my own wood and stains, laser printed image, chalkboard finish, and stunning inlays, guiding me with his expertise in woodworking but also letting me really feel like I made decisions to have customized the perfect piece. The outcome is better than I hoped for; thank you Jim for creating a stylish and wonderfully crafted tap handle and flight paddle. I could not be happier and it was a fun experience to boot, knowing you were in good hands!
Jim was fantastic! The project was completed on the timeline he communicated, and the workmanship is first class. Would definitely work with him again.
