Cutting Boards
These boards come in three forms: Flat Grain - simply a board as you imagine with the flat grain up, Edge Grain - boards with narrow strips joined to make the wider board, End Grain - boards with the grain running up and down in the board. The flat grain boards are most useful for cheese and charcuterie boards and such, while lending themselves to engraving. Edge grain boards are best suited for heavy cutting and chopping in relationship to their size and weight and are usually at least 1 3/4" thick. The end grain board is the classic butcher's block style, most forgiving to fine knives and suitable for any use. These boards are best suited to making decorative boards.

ShopDog Turnery
I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.
In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.
I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.
Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

I only had a picture of an item from the 1920s to provide Jim ...not only did he make an almost exact replica, he made a recommendation to use two different types of wood. I took his advice and my project turned out beautifully. Not only was it finished before the completion date Jim quoted, he is very professional, friendly, and reasonable in his pricing. I will definitely be a return customer when I need woodwork!
