These tap handle and flight paddle combinations are interesting to make. They use three woods to form the racing stripe in the center and the larger space to frame it. I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.

In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.

I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.

Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

First of all, Jim is a fantastic craftsman. The conducting baton he made for me was perfect, and I have used many throughout my career. This one was made exactly to my specifications. He was also very quick to communicate. Highly recommended!

When trying to decide what to get my 4 year old granddaughter for her birthday, I was baking and realized I was using a rolling pin that my mother had gotten for me when I was a youngster. So, perfect! A rolling pin with her initials and date of birth on it. I went right to Custom Made and found Jim Barbour. It took about a month (which he explained in advance) and it was worth the wait. It is magnificent. My husband, who owns a wooden boat and does many things with wood, was impressed as well. Beautiful shape, excellent engraving...better than I had hoped for. Thanks, Jim for the spectacular work. Hopefully when she is baking at 45, she still has this rolling pin!

My expierience with Jim was totaly fantastic! I asked for something that was not his usual style, but he worked with me though out the entire project. He found out that I was a vet expiencing trouble walking so when I asked him to make me a walking staff he found a pice of ironwood that is absoluty beautiful. I relly wnt people to know about his work so when I actualy make it out of the woods to go to town I will be telling everyone about Custom Made and Jim Barbour. Thank You Jim!

Absolutely beautiful creation. I never could have imagined it would turn out so well. Jim was great to work with, he took my idea and helped me to make it better with well thought out improvements to the concept. Great Deal
