I have been making from wood for as long as I can remember. I take a great deal of pride in my work and will not accept a commission if I am not entirely sure I can complete it to your satisfaction. ShopDog Turnery is a one-person, one-dog operation making all sorts of custom items, primarily lathe based. This includes bottle-stoppers, wine glasses (with glass or wooden bowls), platters and plates, bowls, boxes, and whatever else springs to mind.

In addition to lathe work I make various flat pieces; tables, specialty boxes, cutting boards and, again, whatever else springs to mind.

I make for the joy of the making, using sustainably harvested and reclaimed or historical woods exclusively.

Molly was the ShopDog, but is no longer with us. She did all the "RUFF" work in the turnery.

Jim was fantastic to work with. He made us a completely custom mantle shelf at a great price. He's truly passionate about his work and couldn't be a nicer. I definitely recommend him highly!

Doubled my order part way through so I expected a delay. Doug set an expected delivery date but when that passed, he failed to set a new date or communicate any update. Overall craftsmanship is excellent, well worth the money if all expectations met. However there is an inch and half difference in length between my two walking canes was expecting Fritz style handles vice Derbyshire style. Makes a big difference due to my arthritis.

I am beyond happy with the personalized sign that Jim Barbour made for me! The price was reasonable, he gave me a variety of great options from which to choose, his communication with me was excellent, and the sign arrived in a timely manner, shipped very safely. ShopDog Turnery created a beautiful wooden countertop for above our new dishwasher. We live in an old house and this was an odd, custom job that was executed brilliantly. Jim's communication was fantastic, and he guided us through details of the project that we'd failed to think about. I highly recommend working with him and we'll definitely do so again in the future!
