Usaf Flag/Shadow Box (Collapsible)

$180

This box was designed to an Air Force retiree's specifications for a case that could be folded closed or sit open on a desk. Although sized for a 3x5 flag, it can be scaled to fit any size required. The wood for the sides was one continuous board so the grain runs through each section and all the way around the unit. Thin frames hold glass panes on each side, with a stacked set of hinges that hold the assembly together. On the front, small brass catches are used to keep the frames shut. Additionally, a suede panel is mounted to the upper section as the backdrop for rank and insignia. A small stop was added to the back to allow the top to rest open at an angle. The lid was also drilled to fit a unit's challenge coin. Although not visible, the hole is stepped, allowing the reverse side to be viewed if one removes the fabric inside. This version was built from cherry with a matching stain and finished with lacquer and a buffing wax.

Good Morning. My name is Matthew White and I've been a woodworker since 1998. I'm mostly self-taught and I've been adding to my skills ever since.
By day I'm in the Air Force and I found woodworking to be an excellent creative release. It's also given me the opportunity to give back to those who have served.
I've burned murals for conference centers, built shadow boxes for retired Chiefs, and had my work grace offices in Washington D.C. I've had my work presented to Colonels and Airmen completing basic training.
It has been an awesome experience to share and I'm always open to a new project or challenge.
