This was a custom design originally based on the Cherry Stand I had previously built. This design needed to both stand true to the early 20th century style but also be transportable. All parts were built from 1.5-2" thick quartersawn oak for the straight grain. I used exposed mortises for the main components of the music rest and dressed up most of the joints with walnut pegs. The center column is built with a double locking rabbet joint to keep everything straight and a key allows the height to be adjusted. Hex bolts were hidden in the base to allow for easy transportation. On the top, I inlaid a series of walnut strips to resemble a music staff-to include the bar lines-but didn't go as far as adding notes. Finishing was done with a mission oak stain, semi-gloss polyurethane and a coating of wax where the center post needed to slide. The saxophone is mine; I had to take a break from practicing Careless Whisper to take the picture. :D
Delta Black Custom Woodworking
Good Morning. My name is Matthew White and I've been a woodworker since 1998. I'm mostly self-taught and I've been adding to my skills ever since.
By day I'm in the Air Force and I found woodworking to be an excellent creative release. It's also given me the opportunity to give back to those who have served.
I've burned murals for conference centers, built shadow boxes for retired Chiefs, and had my work grace offices in Washington D.C. I've had my work presented to Colonels and Airmen completing basic training.
It has been an awesome experience to share and I'm always open to a new project or challenge.
Great communication and willingness to work with what I wanted and needed. Once the project proposal was accepted Matt completed the project in an efficient timeframe and was shipped and received promptly.
Awesome product!
I'm so far beyond happy with my experience with Matt! He is honest and professional. He always responded to me in a timely manner and kept me a part of the process each step of the way. His prices are more than fair and reasonable. Personally, I feel honored to have worked with him. I can't thank him enough!
I purchased an "Air Force EOD Technician's Retirement Shadow Box." The craftsmanship was superb! Matthew was amazing to work with and offered a speedy turn around time. I can't say enough about his professionalism and the quality of his work. If you're looking to craft a one of a kind piece Matthew is your guy!
I was first a little apprehensive about having something made through this site. I was worried about the quality of work that i'd be getting and how much things would cost. Matthew White really does do good work. He posted pictures through the different stages of the project which made me feel involved. I also showed me that he was actively working on the project to get it done in a timely manner. I was expecting good work....and got excellence instead! He personalized the piece and showed that he is both an artist as well as a carpenter. I would definitely go to him again for future projects!
