Cherry Sculpted Side Table.

$1,300

This table base was commissioned by a wonderful family who had a end grain live edge table top that her grandfather made. The legs that were originally attached to the table had broken off sometime ago. In honer of her grandfather I was asked to bring this beautiful top back to life. The sculpted look of this piece of furniture makes the table flow from the ground up taking back a part of nature that can sometime be lost with ninety degree angles and straight edges. The base is made out of 8/4 Cherry and all the joinery consists of sliding dovetails. This traditional joinery is far superior to anything that can be bought today in retail stores and you won't have to worry about ugly screws, because there are none. If you would like a base like this please keep in mind that you will have your choice of any hardwood that is available to the market and the combination of tops that would go with this are endless to your imagination. This project takes roughly 60 hours to complete from start of construction. I often have a backlog of custom pieces so please feel free to reach out to me. A special thanks for all of the photos taken by Christine Davis of Falcon Colorado.

Furniture built by me to last for generations using the highest quality joinery.

What is the difference between my furniture and furniture you buy in a store?

Today's furniture is built using plywood, MDF, and particle board that are held together by pocket screws which is the lowest quality way to join pieces of furniture. Then the furniture has to be stained or dyed to match. Very little solid wood is actually used in most pieces of furniture today. These methods produce a high volume of low quality product with high margins of profit. You might be intimated when you think of ordering a custom piece of furniture, but did you know in some cases it can be cheaper or the same price to buy custom made.

When I build your custom piece of furniture I meticulously design, build and finish your custom furniture. You have control of the style, look, wood and dimensions. You can pick any solid wood that is available on the market. Each board is hand picked by me to ensure grain/color match and strength. This method gives you the option to enjoy a natural finish that brings out the natural beauty of the wood. Every piece of furniture I build is built out of solid wood that is joined together using primarily mortise and tenon or dovetail joinery. Designed to allow the wood to move with climate changes. This type of Joinery is so effective, because as the wood expands the joinery is not artificial like screws and will expand and contract working naturally together and once a piece is properly joined it becomes one solid piece. Using screws is quicker and more cost effective, but they will fail over a short period of time. You can ensure that as long as your custom furniture is not abused it will become a family heirloom.
