The clients have an appreciation for art and fine craftsmanship and asked me to design a cabinet and shelving for their dining room alcove. Their dining table was cherry so I suggested cherry with maple inlaid elements. I presented 2 color-rendered design options and they chose this design. The cabinet is solid cherry and has breadboard doors with walnut pins. The 2 drawers have box joint construction and the center bottom drawer is a drop down door secured with magnets. The top cabinets feature maple inlaid doors, glass windows and adjustable glass shelves.

Mark is an independent furniture designer and craftsman and builds custom pieces in his wood studio in Frederick, Maryland. He is an industrial designer with additional training in furniture design from the Royal Academy of Fine Art, Copenhagen, Denmark, and has refined his woodworking skills at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship, in Rockport, Maine.

Mark’s style is organic modern and is heavily influenced my both Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions. He draws from his woodworking heritage which goes back six generations through his Scandinavian ancestors.

Mark teaches hand-cut joinery classes and workshops at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center.
