This is myself, Ralph Mitchell standing beside my Peacock Door that I recently completed for the Wishmaker's House in Bellville, Ohio. It is approximately 85 inches high and 36 inches wide. The window is iridescent fused glass of the traditional moon face. The peacock is resting at night time on a weeping (pendulant) cherry tree. All carved elements are sculpted as one piece with the wood, not glued or screwed on, the thickest points being 5 inches thick. Very large, very heavy. Intoxicatingly beautiful of my own design. it is awaiting hardware. The stars are gold leafed in 23 Karat gold. In the Art Nouveau style.
furnishings of intoxicating beauty
Working alone, I state working alone because nearly everything that I design and make are works of art made by me alone and signed by me for 20+ years, Ralph produces furnishings and signs rebelling against "mechanical mediocrity" refusing to work within the limitations imposed by machines and produce objets d'art which can only be accomplished with many hours/days/weeks/months of hand tooling.
To summarize, I am an artisan, not merely a furniture maker. Thank you for your interest in my fascination.
