Crucian Carp With River Shrimp - Gyotaku / Calligraphy Print - Traditional Japanese Fish Art

$100

***(8/14/2015) ALL of our reproduction prints will now be offered as GICLEE prints utilizing high quality, matte ART Paper (similar to watercolor paper) and archival inks!!*** A collaboration of master calligrapher, Shinko Tanaka, and Gyotaku print by Dwight Hwang of a pair of 'herabuna' or 'CRUCIAN CARP' staring at a river shrimp 'te naga ebi". The calligraphy reads "魚心あれば、水心あり" which literally means "if a fish is friendly towards water, water will be kind to the fish" or more simply, "you scatch my back and i'll scratch yours." Will the carp eat the shrimp? Or be kind to it and perhaps the shrimp will return the favor one day. Makes a great gift for that special angler, nature lover or any one who loves fish and appreciates this unique Japanese art form. Crucian carps are found all over Asia and Europe. They are considered a very difficult and frustrating game fish due to their cautious nature. They look like large goldfish; golden in color with a friendly appearance. Faithful to the original Japanese style of creating memorable prints for the avid fisherman; simple and monochromatic. Handsome and would be VERY stunning behind a glass frame on any wall of ones home or office. Print is 13x19 inches with a one inch border. The two red stamps represent Shinko's name (top) as well as my name (bottom). Photos of the framed sample is simply to show you what it would look like behind glass! Frame is not included. Prints will ship first class via tubes for protection! Please don't hesitate in contacting me regarding this print or other specimens that you may be looking for!
