Walnut Live Edge Trestle Dining Table

This table was commissioned with a few basic requirements, overall size, and a place for the person at the head of the table to kick their feet up. Once the wood species, walnut in this case, was decided we went to the lumber yard to find the wood we needed. We happened upon a couple of large walnut slabs while at the yard. I knew I had to convince the customer that what they really wanted was a live edge slab for their table. It didn't take much arm twisting, and we were off building this table. It features through mortise and tenon joinery on the legs, dovetail joinery on the lower stretchers, and half lap joinery on the stretchers under the top. Additionally bow ties were inlaid into the top to prevent checks in the slabs from propagating as well as a nice visual effect. My favorite feature is the burl, see the close up picture, gorgeous curly grain combined with coffee ground colored epoxy and layers of protective wiping varnish are striking.
