Handmade leather brown journal/diary made from soft burnt orange cowhide. Straight forward in design, rugged and purposeful in construction, this leather journal will be a handy companion on most any adventure or exploration. Or just a visit to GrandMa's house. Perfect for the men in your life, whether they're astronauts or Boy Scouts or cavalry soldiers. -Measures 4 x 5" x 1" of rich, deep burnt orange cowhide -Hand cut & trimmed into conventional design -32" adjustable/removable burnt orange leather strap to match -Strap is secured by buff color leather loop on spine -Front cover features deep brown leather lapel -Inside covers feature original, hand torn pieces of silkscreen art in matching colors -Four hand stitched signatures of Folio bright white watercolor/printmaking paper -Signatures are stitched using waxen linen thread -80 hand torn pages with deckle edge -Finished with European head bands -Signature by the artist and journal maker

As sole proprietor at Studio of Visual Arts, I have been a professional illustrator and printmaker for 35 years. My illustrative work is represented in five Louisiana State Museums, countless corporate collections and has received numerous prestigious grants. NewSouthBooks was born as a natural extension of that same artisanship. I am now producing and marketing handmade, leather bound journals of quality and distinction, each journal a unique presentation with original artwork as adornment. All leather, new or old, is hand-cut and trimmed. I use only the highest quality fine art/printmaking paper (250w), hand stitching each signature. My leather journals are truly bound books using traditional book binding materials. Adding to the distinction is the incorporation of original artwork to inside covers and often, the middle signature. On this site, you'll see many examples of work previously completed for clientele.
