These sconces were custom fabricated to fit flush in shallow reveals in a stone clad wall. They are fabricated from hot rolled steel angles and plate and have wire mesh diffuser panels held in place by counter sink fasteners and are fitted with recessed dimmable warm white LED lamping. Andrew Stansell is a Chicago based furniture and lighting designer, fabricator & sculptor who produces his own designs and offers custom lighting, furniture and metal fabrication services.
He strives for a sense of simplicity, honesty and authenticity in all his pieces. He seeks to achieve this through well thought-out design and a balanced use of proportion. This is coupled with materials that convey an almost primitive, textural feel, while retaining a sense of refinement and simple elegance.
He often treats steel in the way that traditional wood and moldings have been used in furniture or cabinetry making, and thinks of himself as a furniture maker who happens to be working with metal and welding equipment.
Projects include tables, bookcases, shelves, etageres, consoles, chairs, benches and seating, architectural iron work, industrial design, custom mounts for sculptures & art, custom hi-fi and stereo equipment stands, metal mirror and picture frames, light fixtures, fireplace surrounds, mantles & screens, armoires, vanities & cabinets, store displays & fixtures, restaurant fixtures, hand rails and outdoor café planters in steel, stainless, brass / bronze & aluminum (mig and tig processes). Metal forging, CNC, Water jet, laser and plasma cutting available.
Metal finishes include natural and patinaed steel, black oxide, powder coated, polished and plated metals (nickel, chrome, brass, galvanized plating). Transitional materials such as wood, stone and plastics available.
Custom lighting fabrication and modification services available - pendants, chandeliers, sconces, table and floor lamps fabricated from glass and metals; Incandescent, LED, halogen lamping available.

He was methodical and solution-focused, while we threshed through the myriad of material and design details to achieve our objectives… Its not hyperbole to say he knocked it out of the park, this fixture is a piece of industrial design art! The old adage that “you get what you pay for” Is a gross over simplification, I’ve paid too much hoping for the best, for mediocre workmanship… more time than I’d like to remember! The tables are fantastic, and are of a far superior quality than any similar tables we looked at in furniture showrooms - even tables that cost the same or more.
