A client of mine asked me to design an entry table that he and his wife could put in their new house. His wife wanted the reclaimed look with pipes as the base. I was able to reclaim some poplar boards from an industrial pallet and reuse old cedar posts from a demolished swing set.

Hey there! I’m Jerry Channell, and I’m guessing that most people who come to a site like custommade are not your average IKEA shoppers. Now, don’t get me wrong; I'm not above IKEA! Honestly, I have an IKEA shelf at my house right now but, here’s the kicker, who doesn’t? Right? That’s why you’re here. You want something that can be unique to you. Something custom to your likes, ideas, and preferences not those of the marketplace average.
That’s why I love what I do. I started building things in my uncle’s basement woodshop when I was little. Back then it was simple boxes and random scrap boards nailed together. But, in high school I decided that I wanted to learn how to build furniture so, I built an Adirondack chair for my mom for Christmas. Now, that chair was honestly horrible (of course momma loved it) but, it was a starting point. In college (University of Georgia – Go Dawgs!), I got a job at a custom cabinet shop where I learned woodworking. I learned how to make sure that you had measurements down to the 32nd of an inch in order for a joint to fit perfectly. I learned how to design unique, quality cabinets that fit people's ideas and personalities. And, I learned how to be a good carpenter. After working for a high end furniture store, I learned so much about creative designs and how to fuse that with quality. Because of the experiences, I love working with reclaimed wood. I love working with things that people would otherwise think is trash but I see as something with potential. BUT, I also love the other side of the spectrum. I like building quality furniture with good quality wood that is fresh from the lumber yard. I guess it just boils down to what YOU want the end product to be! What I love is the process.
Creativity, woodworking, design…it's my passion. But, one day, I hope to build a company that not only provides quality craftsmanship but also molds and develops people and economies. I hope to build this company into one that provides jobs for people in places where jobs don’t exist. I hope to teach people a skill, a trade, give them a way to provide for their family. I hope to one day use woodworking as a way to change the world.
So there you are. I love building things. I love making a difference in people’s lives. Osleeper Designs is just the beginning of somehow weaving those two things together. Making a difference by doing things well, by taking pride in what you do, and by humbly beginning to leave a legacy. Will you help us here at Osleeper Designs? Let’s build some cool stuff that you’re excited about, stuff that you help design, and stuff that will one day help leave a legacy.
Can't wait to hear from you!

For Reclaimed Wood Coffee TableJerry was outstanding to work with and made the entire process a breeze. The tables are exactly what I hoped for and are excellent quality! He worked with me on the design to every detail, and even allowed me to change the height of the end tables halfway through the build. He kept me informed of the progress and was always very prompt in his responses. All in all, this was a great experience. Highly recommended!!!

For Customized Bakers ShelfJerry’s vision and craftsmanship made a dream come to life! When my boyfriend and I got our first apartment this January, he suggested that it would be great to have a scotch bar. I thought it would be a great surprise to find the perfect bar for him: something that would compliment our existing furniture, serve the basic purpose of a bar, but also be a lasting, unique and specialized piece that he could feel proud of when entertaining guests. After looking at countless pictures, I luckily came across Jerry’s “Pipe and Rough Sawn Maple Bakers Rack.” I emailed Jerry with a request for a bakers rack, but with a base that would include extra storage for wine bottles, glasses, etc. Within hours he emailed me and within days we had agreed upon designs plans that drew up. Throughout the building process and pick up (I wanted to pick it up myself), Jerry was readily available via email, text, and phone. On the day of pick up, I could tell he was just as excited as I was to see the final reveal! It was evident that Jerry pours his heart and soul into his work. (I grew up with a woodworking father who has since passed, but he taught me a little bit about the appreciation of wood: its natural grains, cuts, etc.) I had to smile when Jerry shared with me the history of wood pieces and pointed out the grains and cuts elegantly displayed on our piece! Jerry’s work is now proudly displayed in our home and my boyfriend is thrilled about his custom bar. I would happily work with Jerry again as he has been a pleasure to work with throughout the process and his work really is amazing!

For Metal Base Reclaimed Wood Top Coffee TableWas such a great experience working with Jerry from beginning to end. He was always available by phone/text. Was extremely flexible on changing and accommodating all my concerns/requests regarding materials and measurements. He sent photos throughout the entire project and was very concerned with our satisfaction. I would highly recommend Jerry for wood working projects. He has great materials and will tell you exactly what to expect. He stayed within the timeline that I asked and worked extremely efficiently. Our table even came with a nice scroll note wrapped in twine. He has great taste and fantastic skills. So great to have a custom, timeless piece that we will treasure in our home forever. Thank you Jerry!
